• GK Practice – Starting Attacks
  • Use a penalty area if possible so the GK has pitch marking for reference.
  • Yellow players are mannequins or use players if available.
  • The server throws / kicks (depending on age / ability) a cross into the area.
  • The GK collects the cross and moves past the mannequins (“bypass”) to the edge of the box.
  • The GK distributes the ball using an appropriate technique into either goal A or B.
  • The Last Man’s job is to defend both goals A and B – they are a GK too and may use hands etc.
  • This encourages the GK to scan, distribute early / quickly and use disguise on their long passing.
  • Progressions:
  • Move the goals in closer and have a player permanently in both goal A and goal B. The GK catches the cross and tries to score against either player. If that player catches the shot, they can shoot in another goal
  • Move one goal in closer – if the Last Man calls for the ball, the GK distributes to them using a long passing technique. If they don’t call for the ball, the GK distributes short into the goal. You can swap these roles so the Last Man is closer and the goal is further away
  • Condition the GK to using certain techniques – underarm roll, javelin throw, overarm throw, spin & clip, spin & drive (flatter pass), spot & play (side foot), side volley, drop kick, half volley
